So much for thinking I’m frugal and disciplined. Yesterday, the symphony sent an ‘09 schedule, and opening weekend includes one of the most otherwordly, electrifying pieces… I did not physically spend money, but mentally, it is GONE. Mainly, I’m thinking babygirl will make less of a fuss in the womb than when she is out in the big world. Something I did not think about initially, but just hit me, is the price of future tickets will inflate by the cost of a babysitter. On the bright side, I’ve sat in the priciest seats and the cheapest seats, and it does not make a difference. So we’ll probably get away with $19 each, plus parking. Not really a budget buster, just annoying to let unplanned expenses in so early in the month.
Okay, let’s try this again, and avoid any second-day-of-the-month budget busters…

Enjoy the ability to go on “dates” while you still can
We did our best to find a standing babysitter so that we could go out twice a month, and we paid her a “salary.” It’s about all we could do. Sure, it increased the cost of doing things, but at the same time, you have to keep going out together, just the two of you, or emotionally things deteriorate pretty quickly.
I would put this is the good spending category. I don’t actually use a budget but if I did I would include a $200 (or whatever) for emergent opportunities, so there is no budget busting early on (for anything under that amount anyway).
I wish that I had the time to go on dates as well. I just haven’t had the time to spare in recent months as I have been running around between graduate school and work. But in all reality I used to go to theatre productions all the time. When I sat in that back I actually thought it was better. This is because it gave you a better view of the production. The cheap seats can sometimes be uncomfortable, though.
