This is a HUGE issue.
It is important to be informed, but the news can be overwhelming.

“My best guess is that my brain is a bit overloaded with all the bad financial news out there. In fact, just recently I was talking to another financial blogger about how I have to cut down [...]
Frank of Milk Your Money:
“I would much rather purchase a used car with approximately 70k miles for, depending on the car, $3k-7k. This type of car will give you a mode of transportation (remember, this is really all cars are) for around 10 years or more.”
Is this possible? Is it probable? Specifics?
I’m finding cars [...]
Already, people are seeing the “Black Friday +3%” headlines and declaring an end to recession. I’m skeptical. In my mind, the little information we DO know only serves to highlight how much we DON’T know. (I don’t say it as an exercise in idle pessimism… I’m considering shorting consumer sectors, if sentiment get unrealistic.)
The big [...]

I stopped by my broker’s office on Monday to enable options on the "maniac" account. I did not add it at account creation… efficient markets, all that jazz. Now, after everything that has happened this year, besides wanting maximum flexibility, I had one very short-term reason… buy deep out-of-the-money calls on GOOG. I’ve been thinking [...]
Reflecting on the most useful sources of financial information, I’m re-realizing that not all "pfblogs" are blogs per se. Many are, or try to be, more like magazines ("pfmags"). As such, they take on the weaknesses of tradional magazines.
Why I find myself looking towards pfblogs over pfmags, IMO:
pfmags - the content must fit the format
pfblogs [...]
A friend had a scary story the other day…
His daughter’s private grade school offered a big pre-pay discount. Long story short, they might not re-open next year! I gather that everyone knew things were tight, but… they had charity auctions, and surely enough other families would prepay their tuition, right? Maybe not. I don’t know [...]
Chopping away at the month expenses…
DSL / Internet - we had the 2nd highest of four tiers @ $30 per month. (At signup, the top two plans included a decent rebate and free hardware.) Here’s the thing… there is virtually no difference between the 2nd & 3rd levels. It’s one of those “I’m special” expenses, [...]
Baby is sleeping. She does not do that nearly often enough!
To say we are tired is an understatement. We are having the time of our lives, but we are NOT having the sleep of our lives. I’m so tired, I’m actually energized, somehow. Well, most of the time. (There is a weird hazy [...]
I feel silly for sharing, but I’m okay with my silliness.
I had a dream the other day… about the stock market.
Thanks to the wonders of Twitter, I was able to capture it. Not immediately, but nearly.
"Weird. Had (my first?) stock dream. Dreamed we went from Dow 8000 to Dow 7000 to Dow 8000 in [...]
