Awe

"You are going again? It is the same thing every time!"

A friend said that in response to my planning yet another fetal ultrasound visit with Mrs. Ramblings. I don’t think he meant anything negative by it. We are just in awe of different things.

To me, every visit is an amazing experience. I’ve already been to five of them, and I can’t imagine anything keeping me from the next one.

Future Dads, I don’t want to give away all the details.

Just give it a whirl. Attend as many visits as possible.

If it rocks your world at all, it will rock your world hard.

Although I should mention that when the results seem to be getting similar, like our 2nd and 3rd visits, do not let that trick you into skipping the next visit. Our 4th visit still gives me goose bumps. That was when our girl went from looking like a space alien to a real baby, due to the chubby cheeks. The pictures are nice but they do not capture the whole story.

So if it seems like I don’t enjoy spending money, I think it goes deeper than that. I’m just less impressed with most things money can buy. As I get older, the gap between the ordinary and the extraordinary is growing. Maybe my sense of awe will be redistributed in other ways over time. For now, if the way I spend my time and money is unusual to some of the people around me, so be it.
