FinancialRamblings.com has a new look with an emphasis on THINGS YOU CAN DO ($). The goal is to give more visibility to the most useful resources — no matter where you enter the site. Eventually, I want to fine-tune more spreadsheets and run them down the right side. I’m also thinking on a blog with [...]
Everyone likes when people agree with them, but too much agreement is unhealthy.
“If two people agree on everything, one of them is superfluous”
- source?
“If two men agree on everything, you can be sure one of them is doing the thinking.”
- Lyndon Johnson
Anyway, here are two recent comments that 100% blindsided me with their logic.

I have a hard time ignoring economics.
It is challenging.
It is fascinating.
Sometimes, it is infuriating.
It is never, ever boring (to me.)
But is it practical? I think it is, and it is not. (From what I gather, economists love to give those kinds of answers.) Consider an analogy to fuel economy. In the short run, you [...]
Busy, busy, busy getting ready for the baby. (Are we ever really ready?)
Quick thanks to everyone who contributed to Financial Ramblings last month. Subscribers have roughly doubled every month since May, and you can really start to see it in the quantity and quality of comments. Special thanks to the top contributors. If you have [...]
For the longest time, I’d only heard about one rejected email sent to FinancialRamblings. But in the past few couple days, I’ve heard of several incidents. Turns out, my email provider’s spam filtering is highly illogical -and- highly inflexible. I’m currently researching alternatives. In the meantime, if you sent and email and it bounced, you [...]
Today, I’d like to introduce one of the resources @ FR: The Financial Radio Guide
What Shows Are In Your City?
You might be surprised. Of the 11 shows in my city, I was initially familiar with 3. Where did all these other shows come from? It turns out, some of them are local and not available [...]
update to this post: Accepting Volunteers for Personal Finance Blog Search Engine
Google’s contributor system is BUGGY (I don’t think it could be that poor by design).
No problem, time for Plan B. For many people, it could be easier than Plan A.
Contributors can email sites to me directly. Although it is alway a good idea to [...]
EDIT: the process has changed slightly, “please see this post on Plan B“
In May, I created a custom search engine of personal finance blog using Google CSE.
http://www.financialramblings.com/search/
It is not the biggest or even the best, at this time, but I wanted something I could keep current if necessary. Niche search engines are useful when researching [...]
Going out-of-town for a three day weekend in Iowa City. A college friend is taking the plunge and getting married. Should be fun. Probably no posts over the weekend, but a major series of posts will be ready in the next week or so.
Great comments are the most exciting part of blogging. I love everything from a good one-liner to rambling alternative viewpoints. Heck, I already know what I think, unless I’m doing research that will take me in different directions. So to encourage comments from other financial bloggers, I’m working on a few changes to Financial Ramblings:
