Money Roundup: Tax Refund Edition

I’m not sure about you, but we received the (small) cash portion of our tax refund this past week. As a reminder, we made a last minute quarterly payment to create an overage sufficient to get an extra $5k in I-Bonds. I’m expecting those to show up in the next couple of weeks.

And since we’re on the topic, I just wanted to point out that the terms “tax return” and “tax refund” have different meanings. The former refers to the forms that you are required to submit by April 15th each year. The latter refers to the money that you get back if you’ve paid in more than is due.

A minor point, to be sure, but people misuse these terms all the time and it bugs the heck out of me. But now I feel better. 😉

I know! It boggles my mind why people mix or misuse these terms. Good for you for making good use of your refund.
